Mobile payments offer significant convenience. By using your phone or device to pay for business expenses, you save time compared to pulling out your commercial card from your wallet.
Merchants that accept mobile payments often display one or all of the following icons at check out or on the card reader device:
- Contactless payments
- Apple Pay
- Google Wallet
- Samsung Wallet
The majority of phones today can make mobile payments using a payments application (app), like Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet or Garmin Pay. The app to make mobile payments will be on your phone if it has mobile payment capabilities.
At a high level, to add your commercial card to your phone simply:
- Open the mobile payment app on your device.
- Add your card details by following the app’s prompts.
- Complete setup, including any steps to verify your identity.
Mobile payments are secure because they use encryption (tokenization) to protect your sensitive information during a transaction. Tokenization is the process of replacing sensitive card details, such as the card number, with a randomly generated token for a secure transaction. Additionally, features like using a fingerprint or face recognition add an extra layer of security.
Depending on certain account conditions, you may need to authenticate your identity with the call center.
The last four digits differ because a tokenized version of your physical card number is saved to your mobile wallet to improve security. The last four digits shown on the receipt are from the tokenized card.
There are a number of factors that affect the card art. The card art enabled for the U.S. Bank One Card for example, is the same for any client using mobile payments. Aside from the general appearance, information that would typically be visible on a physical card is either purposefully omitted or hidden for security reasons.
The same restrictions that prevent the purchase of certain good and services with a physical card also apply when making mobile payments. Cardholders who experience a decline at the point of sale should contact Cardmember Services at 800-601-3842 to review the transaction.
